Android on HTC Kaiser..

Jul 01 2009 Published by Prakash under Tips, Windows Mobile

I have tried before a couple of times to install Android on my Kaiser and succeeded once but without phone functionality. For some reason, it didn’t boot in Android the next time i tried.

Yesterday i got back to it again and things have improved so much since my last attempt.

There is a whole new dedicated page now (by the same XDA-developers ) – Android On HTC

And then there is the vogue-Android project on Google Code.

Just for the record, this particular bundle worked for me fine!

Now i can boot in Android everytime but still no Telephone functionality. Even though i get “registered to network” message!

Wi-Fi not working and neither the bluetooth.

Only was playing around with the photo browsing and video player!

3 major annoyances in Windows Mobile Device Center..

Oct 17 2008 Published by Prakash under Tips, Windows Mobile

If you have not migrated yet to Vista, Here’s one more reason to defer :)

By now, everyone knows, that in Vista, ActiveSync have been downgraded to Windows Media Device Center.

Here’s top 3 annoyances in using that.

  1. Can’t Backup / Restore anymore
  2. Windows Mobile Device Center troubleshooting guide clearly states, backup and restore device data feature is only available for Windows Mobile 2003 devices. So if you have Windows Mobile 5 or 6 or 6.1, You cannot backup / restore using Windows Mobile Device Manager. You should look for 3rd party applications for doing this.

Anyway, Everything you need to know about backing up (and, thus, securing) the contents of your Pocket PC gives a comprehensive overview and tools available, and benefits of the available options. Have a read there.

  3. Un-useful links in Programs/Settings
  4. The fancy menu is kinda insulting if you want to find stuff. Hovering the menu over Programs and Services shows this

I wonder how many would find these links useful. In my opinion, this is the last place i would look if i want to “Do More with my device”.

  5. Difficult to find most common things
  6. The most frequent item i would use is Add/Remove Programs. Seriously it took a while for me to notice that this option is buried in Programs and ServicesAnd the next most common thing i would use to change the connection Settings. This is also buried under Mobile Device Settings.

Why not list them as the first items in the fancy menus?

Evernote..

Sep 29 2008 Published by Prakash under Apple, Organizer, Recommendations, Tips, Windows Mobile

I am beginning to like Evernote now. I first heard about it in a Stackoverflow Discussion thread.

Started with the web account first. The default note was showing off what is possible.

Found the Windows Client which is ok too.

But then i installed the Windows Mobile client, And began to really liked using it.

  • The Text Note is plain as it should be.
  • Ink Note is interesting with the options
  • Snapshot is quite handy if you want to capture your scribbling in the wall, like after a brainstorm meeting.
  • Voice note is the most useful if you just like to speak your thought for later processing maybe.. [It reminds me how i liked the recording note idea in ADB Idea Library which i recommended in the past]
  • And you can upload a file to your notes collection.

All in all, its a neat little idea done right.

I also installed on my iPod Touch (supports only Text note and saved photo Note)

The synchronization just does what it should. I think this is what made me like the application best.

Especially for an organizer, you should never feel left out or lack that particular phone or laptop or dont have to sit in front of your computer.

You can organize your thoughts from wherever using whatever device you have with you at that moment.

Kudos Evernote team!!
